Discover amazing red-wines of the AHR region and enjoy a apples or asparagus of Meckenheim directly in the orchards. For motorcycle- and oldtimer car fans the rhine- and AHR-routes are as famous as the nearby “Nürburgring” with its challenging north-loop.
Meckenheim is traditionally known for its nursery gardens and farming of choice fruit and is situated in between an interesting and diversified landscape.
The fruit fields surround the city like a ring – a “MUST SEE” for all hitch hikers and cyclists.
In spring 2019 the new “Rhineland apple route” was established. This route combines -under the experience of the cultural landscape and agricultures- all six communities of the community “rhine-voreifel”, the biggest fruit- and vegetable farming area of whole Northrine-Westfalia. Additional 6 municipal minor loops round up the “Rhineland apple route”. On 31 kilometers the minor loop of Meckenheim combines a multitude of fruit farms, farm shops, sights like the castles of Lüftelberg and Adendorf with museum and cafés as well as parts of the roman water pipeline as a circle trip. The forest area of “Kottenforst” close to Meckenheim is a famous hiking- and recreation area of the region.

Bad Neuenahr is the capital of the famous “Ahr valley”. Let yourself inspire of the wonderful and unique landscape of the valley and delight yourself of the wine yards, bizarre mountains and the AHR river. With its more than 1450 hours of sunshine per year the mild climate is a demand generator for many visitors. This region used to be named as the wildest daughter of the river Rhine by some romantic people.
For a total of 89 kilometers the river Ahr wriggles through the valley. The top wines of the AHR can only be cultivated under difficult conditions along the scarps. However the excellent quality is worth that hard work.
